| SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT at the 5th World Water Forum
Growing urbanization, climate change and increasing environmental regulation are all new challanges to be met. The requirement of transparency and participation is also omnipresent. These social and environmental challenges are vital to sustainable development, and should compel us to invent a new model. The current global crisis must not in any way dissuade us from moving forward; rather, it makes it all the more necessary to create a new model for growth, respectful of the planet and its resources.
We are convinced that the critical times we are experiencing are, in fact, opportunities to shift positions, and we are open to dialog. We have heard what our stakeholders have to say to us and we have incorporated their suggestions into our development, wherever possible.
Today, while aware of our limits and proud of the progress that has been made since Mexico, we have come to Istanbul to discuss three challenges of special significance to us:

Governance models in the fields of water and sanitation services
On the occasion of the 5th World Water Forum, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT jointly published a brief overview of the wide variety of governance models in the fields of water and sanitation services worldwide. UCLG, as a global association of Local Governments, and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT have a broad experience of the various socio-economic contexts and institutional settings. By sharing knowledge on existing management models in a sample of selected countries, our aim is to provide local leaders withe a collection of information that will be of benefit to them. This initiative may as well foster dialogue and further research in this increasingly important area.
